The people of Peru are beautiful. I had the opportunity to head there in early spring 2006 with a group from my church in St. Joseph, Michigan. We made our way to the sort of jungle capital city of Iquitos and were in the immediate region for a short time. We made our way down the Amazon to a port village and a port city on a day excursion. I think the most impactful for any of us in the group was seeing the families living on the edge of the landfill and the lengths they went to just to survive.
Allies or Enemies: The Afghan Road to Manhood is a collection of photographs captured during my time in Afghanistan in early 2008 showing boys and young men from an orphanage in the Northeastern city of Mazar-i-Sharif and from a village near to the city. Some may grow to be members of the Taliban. Others may grow to be entrenched against them. This body speaks to me not only of failings or neglect, but also of the great opportunity to apply our pen to the pages of time and choose to write and new and better history for the generations to come - in their world and in ours.
Here are some photos from all over the United States. This is one of the collections that will grow and change over time as I add or remove photos. I've got tons of stuff from when I was living on the road out West for a while as well as just all sorts of little trips here and there.

A few people have noted how much different I was after living in Europe for a while. How it matured me and seemed to bring a piece of the puzzle that is a life. As I catch up on my photos from the travels and make new trips, I'll be sure to update this, as it is one of the collections that means the most to me. I hope you enjoy and see at least a little of what I see.

In early 2009, I had the chance to head to Muizenburg, South Africa for a couple of weeks to teach photography at a Youth With a Mission base there for their School of Field Journalism. While there, they happened to be running the Cape Argus race, a bicylce race with the second largest enrollment. The first is, of course, Tour de France. This race brought the possibility of catching a glimpse of Matt Damon (I'm a fan) while he was cycling for leisure before filming Invictus.
